India Women will be back to T20I cricket after 5 months. The last time they played a bilateral T20I series was against Bangladesh in July where skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was handed a suspension for 2 international matches due to her misbehavior.

India Women under the leadership of Kaur is all set to host England for a 3-match T20I series followed by an Only Test that will be played at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.

England will be eager to turn things around after a series loss to Sri Lanka in their backyard back in September this year. The visitors are coming here with a full-strength squad that features all of their star players such as Danielle Wyatt, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Sophie Ecclestone, and Amy Jones.

India on the other hand, have made some changes to the bowling attack. It looks completely different from what they had on their tour of Bangladesh. However, the all-rounders and their key batters continue to be part of the squad except for Harleen Deol.

India Women Preview

India Women will be excited to play England on the Indian soil. The last time England Women toured India was in March of 2019 when India lost all the 3 T20Is. It was the bowlers who put India in the contest during that series while the batters failed big time.

Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma will likely open the innings for India this time around. And the two are the most crucial figures in this batting lineup. Mandhana has plenty of experience having also played in the Women’s T20 league in England, Australia, and India.

Verma is an attacking batter who is an asset for any team to have as an opener. If she gets going in the powerplay, she could get the team to a big powerplay score, enough to give the team an early advantage in the game.

Though Harleen Deol is also an attacking batter lower down the order, she hasn’t been in good form lately. And we aren’t counting on her to make much of an impact but the Indian conditions could and the crowd could just be what the skipper needs to make a comeback.

Deepthi Sharma and Pooja Vastarkar will be the key bowlers to watch out for in this side. However, India have also roped in Renuka Thakur Singh and Titas Sadhu for the T20I series.

Many all-rounders in the squad will be crucial with the ball. Shreyanka Patil is one such key all-rounder who showed great promise during the Women’s Premier League playing for RCB.

India Women Predicted Playing XI:

Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Jemima Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh (wk), Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Kanika Ahuja, Shreyanka Patil, Pooja Vastakar, Renuka Thakur Singh, Deepti Sharma

India Women Actual Playing XI:

Kanika Ahuja, Shreyanka Patil, Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur, Shafali Verma, Deepti Sharma, Pooja Vastrakar, Richa Ghosh, Saiqa Ishaque, Renuka Singh

England Women Preview

Heather Knight will be looking to extend England’s dominance over India in Women’s cricket. It is especially important at this point since they had lost to Sri Lanka in England in the 3-match T20I series.

An away series win will put that heartbreaking loss behind them. England should be confident coming to India as they won’t be facing the same bowlers who dominated them the last time around.

As such, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Heather Knight should be looking to target Indian bowlers and make a big impact at number 3 and 4. While they’ve got a reliable batter in Danielle Wyatt at the top, there is also Amy Jones in the middle-order who can deliver an impactful knock.

Alice Capsey and batting all-rounder Sophia Dunkley are other key players to watch out for in the English batting lineup. It looks like a really strong batting department and they should enjoy playing their strokes on a batting-friendly wicket at the Wankhede in Mumbai.

With the ball, Sophie Ecclestone will lead the attack while Lauren Bell and Charlotte Dean also promise some key breakthroughs in the middle. Just like the hosts, England also have a great variety of all-rounders which allows for a variety of options with the ball.

Nat Sciver Brunt and Mahika Gaur are the two key bowling all-rounders who could make a big difference for England Women.

England Women Predicted Playing XI:

Danielle Wyatt, Maia Bouchier, Alice Capsey, Heather Knight (c), Amy Jones (wk), Nat Sciver Brunt, Danielle Gibson, Charlotte Dean, Sarah Glenn, Soophie Ecclestone, Mahika Gaur

England Women Actual Playing XI:

Alice Capsey, Danielle Wyatt, Sophia Dunkley, Heather Knight, Freya Kemp, Mahika Gaur, Natalie Sciver, Amy Jones, Sophie Ecclestone, Lauren Bell, Sarah Glenn

Weather Conditions

It is a batting paradise at the Wankhede in Mumbai. Batters should find it easy to strike the long ball and with shorter boundaries and a fast outfield, they just need to find the gaps. The weather will be partly cloudy with a high of 33 degrees Celsius in Mumbai on the match day.

IND-W vs ENGW Pitch Report

India and England will lock horns in the 1st T20I of the 3-match series at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. A high-scoring, iconic venue known for thrilling T20Is in IPL, the venue should allow both teams to score big irrespective of the innings. Since it is a night game, even if there is dew on offer, both should benefit from it.

However, considering the cloudy weather, we reckon there will not be any dew on the surface which makes the contest more even between teams batting first and second. Nevertheless, the team batting first will need to put at least 165 or more to stay competitive in the game.

Toss: To Bowl

It’s a night game and chasing will be easier at this venue in Mumbai. There is good bounce and carry on offer and though the ball would do a bit under the lights and the sea breeze, that should last for only a couple of overs.

Though both teams are well-matched as far as the squad strength goes, India lack consistency in the middle order. There aren’t many reliable batters in the lower order who can be the match-finisher for India. They are dependent on their bowlers to help them gain the upper hand whereas England have an all-round side that boasts of match-winning players in every department. England Women will start with a slight edge in our match prediction.
