Manipal Tigers Preview

Manipal Tigers suffered a huge setback against Southern Super Stars in Jammu as they finished with 124 for 9 batting first. Uthappa, Badrinath, and Masakadza all failed in the top 3 while Angelo Perera made an impact in the middle order to save the team from further embarrassment.

This performance came after two consecutive wins where the Tigers performed exceptionally with the bat. Luckily for the skipper Harbhajan Singh, it was just a hiccup on their way to the playoffs as the Manipal Tigers quickly turned things around with a successful run chase in their very next game.

Their batting lineup looked a lot different with no Uthappa, Badrinath, and Masakdza this time around. Kyle Coetzer and Chadwick Walton opened the innings and Colin de Grandhomme followed at number 3.

The number 3 batters played a big role in the run-chase along with Amit Verma at number 4. Coming to Surat, the top 3 will once again be the key players in setting the stage for a big total whereas Thisara Perera will be the one to finish the innings on a high.

They’ve also got Angelo Perera and Mohammad Kaif in the middle order but the latter hasn’t been very reliable with the bat. Tigers have also been impressive with the bat except for their last game where they were expensive.

We expect Harbhajan Singh, Imran Khan, and Praveen Gupta to lead with wickets for the Tigers. They could get some purchase off this surface at the Lalabhai Contractor Stadium and should be able to deliver breakthroughs at the right intervals.

Coming into the playoffs, bowling should be a major concern for the Urbanrisers. It is in this department that they need to improve. They showed promise in their last match against Bhilwara Kings restricting them to 144 for 6 bowling first.

They will need a similar bowling performance if the Urbanrisers are to get ahead of Manipal Tigers in this contest. Shadab Jakati, Stuart Binny, and Chris Mpofu will be the key players for this task.

The batting department is where Hyderabad’s strength lies. Some of the best T20 stars feature in this batting lineup from top to bottom and most of them are in great form.

Dwayne Smith and Martin Guptill open the innings followed by Gurkeerat Singh and Suresh Raina in the middle order and recently Rikki Clarke came in ahead of those two to play a match-winning knock at number 3.
