Match 20 of the IPL 2025 sees Mumbai Indians (MI) hosting Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Wankhede this Monday. It’s been a bumpy ride for Mumbai so far—three tough losses and just one solid win at home. RCB kicked things off strongly with two convincing victories, but their momentum took a hit after a big loss to Gujarat Titans. Can Mumbai find their rhythm again, or will RCB bounce back and hand them another defeat?

It’s been a bumpy IPL season so far for Mumbai Indians. They’ve picked up just one win at home, while losing all three away matches. Their only real high point was the win over KKR at Wankhede, but away from home, they’ve been poor. In the last match, they fell short by 12 runs chasing 204 against LSG.
Their top order hasn’t fired consistently. Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton have had their moments but haven’t done enough. Rohit Sharma missed the last game and hasn’t been in great rhythm lately, so expectations from him aren’t high at this stage.
Tilak Varma couldn’t find the boundary at the right time in their last match, and that slow patch proved costly. But the Wankhede should suit his game better, and he might come good here. Suryakumar Yadav, on the other hand, has been excellent—171 runs in four innings, averaging 57 and a strike rate over 160.
Hardik Pandya is expected to provide a late push, especially with the bat at this ground, where he has a strike rate of 146. He’s coming off a five-wicket haul too, so he’s bringing value with the ball.
Deepak Chahar has been tidy, picking up four wickets and keeping things under control in his spells. He shares the new ball with Boult, who’s always a threat up front.
Santner should do his usual job in the middle overs. Vignesh Puthur adds something new and might grab a few wickets. Also worth noting is Ashwani Kumar, who had a great outing here last time, taking 4 for 24 against KKR.
Suryakumar Yadav is averaging 2 sixes per match this season, against RCB in 4 matches played at Wankhede he has hit 11 sixes that is close to 3 sixes per match. Given his current form, we back Surya to hit over 1.5 sixes against RCB.
Tilak Varma has struggled to score runs at a quick rate this season, his performance has been below par so far. He was retired out in the last game and Tilak will look to change his intent against RCB, which could eventually lead to his downfall and we predict his score to be under 29 runs.
Suryakumar Yadav has scores of 67, 27, 48 and 29 this season, he is good form and has a phenomenal record at Wankhede Stadium (1110 runs in 33 matches). Against RCB at Mumbai, he has scored 164 runs in 4 matches, averaging 41. Expect another impactul knock from "SKY' and his score to be over 28 runs.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru got off to a strong start with away wins over KKR and CSK. But things took a turn when they played at home for the first time this season, going down to Gujarat Titans. RCB batted first at the batting-friendly M. Chinnaswamy Stadium and posted a below-par 169-8. Gujarat had no trouble chasing that, getting there in just 17.2 overs and losing only two wickets.
It was a tough outing for RCB, and they’ll want to shake it off quickly and get back in the groove.
The top order is clicking well. Virat Kohli, Philip Salt, and Rajat Patidar have all looked solid. Patidar has chipped in twice already, and Salt should enjoy the surface at the Wankhede—expect him to go hard from the start and get a quickfire 25-30 runs.
Kohli loves playing here too, averaging over 40 with five fifties at a strike rate of 136. After a couple of quiet outings, he’ll be keen to make it count.
Liam Livingstone, who hadn’t done much in the first two games, found his rhythm with a 54 off 40 against GT—the highest score for RCB that day. Further down, Jitesh Sharma and Tim David are reliable for late-over firepower. David was especially impressive in the last match, hammering 32* off just 18 and proving he can do real damage.
Batting has usually carried RCB, but their bowling’s stepped up too. Josh Hazlewood has slotted in well—six wickets from three games and an economy of 7.26 is hard to ignore. With Bhuvneshwar Kumar sharing the new ball, they’ve got a steady pair upfront. In the middle overs, Krunal Pandya, Yash Dayal, and Livingstone give them more options and keep things tight.
Kohli had a tough outing against Gujarat, where he scored 5 runs. But so far he has scored over 30 runs in the first two matches. At Wankhede Stadium he has a very good record (574 runs in 18 matches) and always comes out on top against big teams.

The Wankhede track is generally flat and run-friendly. Still, expect some movement for pacers under lights, especially in the opening overs with the new ball. Once batters weather this challenging start, run-scoring becomes much easier. Spin bowlers typically find little assistance here with minimal turn available. The pitch should be hard and firm, making life difficult for slower bowlers.
Expect extremely sticky and warm conditions in Mumbai, though rain won't be a factor during the match.

Average TurnThe Wankhede Stadium usually sees first-innings scores averaging 170. RCB holds the IPL record here with 235-1 against MI in 2015. Last season alone, four matches produced totals exceeding 200, including Mumbai Indians' massive 234-5 versus Delhi Capitals. Considering how runs flow at this stadium, both teams will likely aim for 190-200 to feel comfortable about their chances.
We back the home team, Mumbai Indians to win the coin toss in match 20 of TATA IPL 2025.
The last match played at Wankhede was a low scoring affair, where the total match score was under 250 runs. The last time RCB and MI played at Mumbai it was a high scoring match where the total match score was 395. In fact the last two matches between these teams have been high scoring and expect the same in today's match.
The numbers favor chasing at Wankhede Stadium, with teams batting second winning 65 T20 matches compared to 54 victories for teams setting targets. This trend comes from a total of 119 T20 games played at the venue.
Normally, Mumbai Indians would have the edge at home against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. But they haven’t quite clicked this season. Other than one solid win at home, they've stumbled to three pretty rough defeats. RCB are also coming off a heavy loss, but their first two matches showed they’ve raised their game this year. IPL 2025 has been unpredictable, with the supposed favorites slipping more often than expected. MI will hope their home crowd gives them a lift and could pull off a strong showing. That said, RCB look more settled overall, and putting your money on them might be the better call.
We are backing Royal Challengers Bengaluru for a win in this game.
