Chennai Super Kings (CSK) kicked off their IPL 2025 campaign with a solid win over long-time rivals Mumbai Indians. Playing on a typical slow Chepauk surface, their spinners kept MI in check, limiting them to 155-9. The chase wasn’t without hiccups, but CSK reached the target with four wickets in hand and five balls remaining.
Rachin Ravindra anchored the innings with a composed 65 off 45 deliveries, while skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad provided early momentum with a brisk 53 off 26. Apart from their contributions, the batting lineup struggled, yet the team managed to get the job done.
CSK will once again count on strong starts from Rachin and Gaikwad. Gaikwad, in particular, has a great record at Chepauk and will be counted on to deliver.
Shivam Dube is expected to take on RCB’s spinners in the middle phase, while Vijay Shankar could be considered in place of Deepak Hooda to stabilize the middle order.
Finishing responsibilities will fall on Sam Curran, Ravindra Jadeja, and MS Dhoni.
With Chepauk favoring spin, Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Noor Ahmad will play a central role in restricting opposition batters. Noor was outstanding in the last match, grabbing 4-18 in his four overs, making him a crucial factor once again.
Khaleel Ahmed impressed with his ability to pick up early wickets, and CSK will rely on him to strike upfront. Matheesha Pathirana might come in for Nathan Ellis, given how effective he has been at the death for CSK in previous seasons.
Noor Ahmad made a sensational debut for CSK, picking up 4 wickets in his last outing. Against RCB, he is going to be an ideal matchup, given his record against right handers (28 wickets, averaging 24.17). At Chepauk in two matches has picked up 5 wickets. The conditions will suit him alot and we predict Noor to have an impact and take more than 1 wicket.
Shivam Dube missed out big time against Mumbai Indians and was dimissed for a low score. He is known for his big hitting and last season at Chennai he smashed 21 sixes in 7 matches, averaging 3 sixes per game. We back the big six-hitting master of CSK to come good in today's game and clear the ropes more than 2 times.
The captain of CSK started his campaign in superb way scoring a match winning half century (53 runs in 26 balls) against Mumbai. Gaikwad has now scored over 30 runs in all the last 8 IPL games played at Chennai. He averages over 50 at Chennai and is the best batter to bet on.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru made a strong statement in their season opener, pulling off a convincing win against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders on their own turf. They kept KKR to 174-8 and then chased it down comfortably in 16.2 overs, losing only three wickets along the way.
Bengaluru delivered in all departments, with Philip Salt (56 off 31) and Virat Kohli (59* off 36) putting on a batting masterclass at the top to make things easy in the chase. Rajat Patidar played his part as well, smashing 34 off just 16 balls to seal the victory. Their top order looks solid with Kohli, Salt, Patidar, and Liam Livingstone, while Jitesh Sharma, Tim David, and Krunal Pandya provide depth in the middle and lower order.
Josh Hazlewood could be a game-changer for RCB this season. The Australian pacer was outstanding against KKR, picking up 2-22, and will enjoy bowling at Chepauk. Krunal Pandya’s 3-29 played a decisive role in the previous match, making him a key asset on slower tracks. RCB will also count on Suyash Sharma, Livingstone, and Yash Dayal to pick up wickets in the middle overs.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar missed RCB's season opener due to a niggle but recent reports state that the experienced seamer is likely to start for the team in the match against CSK, which will be a massive boost for the visitors. If that does happen, Bhuvneshwar will replace either Rasikh Dar Salam or Yash Dayal in the lineup.
Kohli announced his arrival in IPL 2025 with a bang, orchestrating a run-chase at Eden Gardens in true "Kohli Way" style. Now, he has set his sights on Chepauk, a venue where he has scored 383 runs in 13 matches. His numbers against CSK are simply insane: 1053 runs in 33 matches. Given his current form, another big knock from the run-machine is highly anticipated.
Virat Kohli, Philip Salt, Rajat Patidar (c), Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Tim David, Krunal Pandya, Rasikh Dar Salam/Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Suyash Sharma, Josh Hazlewood, Yash Dayal Impact Player options: Vaibhav Arora, Anukul Roy

Chepauk will offer a spin-friendly surface as we saw in the first game here, which becomes slower in the second innings. Batters will look to maximize the powerplay overs because once the ball loses its shine, it will start to turn and grip more. Spinners will have a field day and are likely to bowl the maximum number of overs.
The weather in Chennai will be hot and humid but clear.

High TurnChepauk’s average first-innings score is 159. In the first match of IPL 2025 played at the venue, MI scored 155-9 after batting first, and CSK chased the target down in 19.1 overs with four wickets in hand. Expect another slowish surface with plenty of assistance to spinners. The team batting first will target a score of around 170-180 to feel confident.
We predict the luck to be in favour of the home team , CSK and back them to win the coin toss.
The first game of the season played at Chennai was a moderate scoring game, where the total match score was 313. But you can expect a much better surface for today's game and the quality of batters in both the teams a score of 170-180 will be an ideal score and we predict it to be a moderate scoring game and predict the total match score to be over 338.
Batting first is usually the better option at Chepauk, unless the team is bundled out for a below-par score. The wicket slows down over time, making it harder to chase later in the game.
Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru have a history of delivering thrilling matches. Last year, RCB got the better of CSK in their final group-stage game to clinch a playoff berth. This season, they look more polished and will take confidence from their opening win over KKR. That said, Chepauk has been a stronghold for CSK, with just one defeat to RCB in nine meetings at the venue. The surface favors their playing style, giving them an edge. Expect a hard-fought battle, but Chennai’s track record at home should see them emerge victorious in the end.
Back Chennai Super Kings as the winners of this clash.
