Melbourne Renegades take on Sydney Sixers to kick their campaign off in the WBBL. The WBBL has been shortened this year, so these two teams cannot afford to limber up and then get into action.
With a potential place in the knockouts, these two teams will be looking to go in and hit the ground running. The Spring Challenge, the inaugural edition of which ended last week, didn’t go well for both the teams, but they’ll be aiming for a fresh start with a lot of marquee players coming back into the fold with the completion of the World T20.
Sixers have clearly dominated the recent encounters, pushing their lead on the overall head to head to 12 wins compared to Renegades' 6.

If an eighth-place finish last season isn’t enough motivation for the Renegades women to come in and fight, we guess the inclusion of some strong players like Sophie Molineuex and Hayley Matthews one of the most valuable T20 women players of recent times will serve as a kick in the butt. Matthews will be buoyed by the presence of another heavy-hitter and compatriot in Deandra Dotton.
Batters Emma de Broughe and Naomi Stalenberg from the Hurricanes stable hold the key in bolstering the batting order. With the ball, the three-pronged spin attack comprising the likes of Sophie Molineux, Hayley Matthews and Georgia Wareham be looking to make a mark with their spin bowling early on in the tournament.
Aussie hero Tayla Vlaeminck couldn’t catch a break with her injury struggles and ended up dislocating her shoulder again. In her absence, the pace duties will be taken over by Milly Illingworth, who has moved over from the Stars, and Sara Kennedy, who impressed in red last season and is billed as the next big player coming through the ranks.
While they have the team to create an impact this team. It remains to be seen whether these girls will be able to go out there and put in performances consistently to go all the way in a condensed 10-match tournament.

Sixers didn’t start last year’s campaign off well, and before they knew it, they were chasing the pack. They closed a great g in Amelia Kerr, pulling off a coup. Her inclusion in the side changes the very fabric of the team.
A world class bowler, an excellent accumulator of runs in the middle order, and an electrifying athlete that stands out with her fielding skills. Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner will be more than pleased to welcome her into the fold, as all-rounders. Sophie Ecclestone, the leading spinner in the women’s circuit, is also going to be part of Sixers starting XI at some stage in the tournament.
With the bat, Alyssa Healy will be looking to get out there and score some quick runs to get Sixers off to a flying start. She's not fully recovered from her injury yet, but she has a talented partner in Hollie Armitage, the English player who can slide up or down the order and contribute with the bat from virtually any slot given to her.
It’d be interesting to see how strong the Sixers team could be when they’ve full availability of the players, but with Kerr and Ecclestone likely to not feature throughout the tournament, other players need to step up and help Sixers cause.

The Adelaide strip has been slightly on the trickier side.
Batters hardly feel set here despite playing themselves in. And if the wicket, which generally assists both bat and ball, takes spin and off pace bowling, run making could become a touch difficult.
The short square boundaries here can sometimes make the batters err , bringing bowlers in to play. All in all, this game should throw up a good contest between bat and ball.
The weather is fine with no rain threat around, and a complete game of T20 is in prospect.

Average TurnThe match will be played at the beautiful Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. These teams haven’t met each other here before, so it’d be interesting to see who walks away with the win in a neutral venue.
Chasing at the Adelaide Oval has produced good results for teams with good bowling attacks. The formula for success here is simple: win toss, put the opposition in to bat, restrict them to a less than par total, chase the runs down. But it’s easier said than done. But still we believe the captain winning toss will opt to field first.
Sydney Sixers Women have a strong squad with classy players and a bevy of world class all rounders in their ranks, and if a few of them come to the party, Renegades women will not be able to make a game out of it. Sixers, to win.
