The 18th match of IPL 2025 featuring Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) is scheduled for April 5, 2025, at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh. Punjab Kings have won their first two games and are at the top of the points table with an NRR of 1.485. At the same time, Rajasthan Royals have one win in three games and are in ninth place.
Punjab Kings have had an impressive start to their IPL 2025 campaign, securing two consecutive victories. In their opening match on March 25, 2025, against the Gujarat Titans, they clinched the win by 11 runs after posting a formidable total of 243/5. Building on this momentum, PBKS beat LSG by 8 wickets in the second game with Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer scoring half-centuries.
Rajasthan Royals have had an up-and-down start to IPL 2025, winning one out of their first three matches. They began their season with a high-scoring encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad, where despite posting a strong total of 242/6, they fell short by 44 runs while chasing SRH’s massive 286. Their struggles continued in the second game against Kolkata Knight Riders, managing only 151/9, which KKR comfortably chased down to hand RR their second consecutive loss. However, RR bounced back strongly in their third match against Chennai Super Kings, defending 182 runs successfully to a much-needed 6-run victory, thanks to Nitish Rana’s explosive 81 and disciplined bowling at the death.
Historically, RR has had the upper hand in their head-to-head encounters, securing 16 wins out of 28 matches, while PBKS has won 11 times, with one match ending in a tie.

Priyansh Arya will open the innings with Prabhasimran Singh. Arya played a knock of 47 runs off 23 deliveries against Gujarat Titans while Singh scored a half-century (69 off 34) in the second game. PBKS’ skipper Shreyas Iyer will be the batter to watch out for. Iyer has scored two unbeaten half-centuries (97* & 52*) in the first two games, hitting 13 sixes. Nehal Wadhera will come at number four after his 43* runs off 25 balls in the last game.
Shashank Singh will come in the middle with all-rounders Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis. Singh scored 44 off 16 balls in the second game. Maxwell is yet to score a run with the bat for Punjab but has picked up two wickets with the ball. On the other hand, Stoinis has 20 runs with the bat. He has been expensive with the ball.
Arshdeep Singh will lead the bowling attack with Lockie Ferguson and Marco Jenson. Singh will be the bowler to watch out for. He has picked up 5 wickets in the two games. His economy is just below 10. Jansen has two wickets while Ferguson has one in one game. The PBKS bowlers are yet to show their strength. Chahal will be the lead spinner in the bowling attack.
Key Players: Shreyas Iyer, Prabhsimran Singh, Arshdeep Singh.
Arshdeep Singh bagged three wickets against LSG and was mighty effective in the powerplay and death overs. He is a genuine wicket taker and has picked up 16 wickets in the last 11 T20 matches. At Mullanpur in 5 matches, he has picked up 8 wickets.
Shreyas Iyer has smashed 13 sixes in 2 matches this season, in both the matches he has hit the maximum number of sixes for PBKS. Considering his six hitting form and strike rate against leg spinners, we back Iyer to hit most 6's for Punjab in today's match.
Iyer is in sublime form at the moment, he smashed 3 fours in his last innings against LSG. So far this season, Shreyas Iyer is averaging four 4's per match and is yet to be dismissed.
The captain of Punjab Kings has decimated the opponent bowlers in the two matches played so far amassing 149 runs in 2 matches and he has remained unbeaten in both the matches. Against Rajasthan Royals, Iyer has scored 366 runs in 13 matches, averaging 33.27. Given his commendable form, we back Iyer to score over 25 runs against the Royals.

Rajasthan Royals’ batting line-up has had a mixed start to IPL 2025, with a few players stepping up while others are still looking for form. Leading from the front, skipper Sanju Samson has been the most consistent performer so far. Across the three matches, he has scored 108 runs, including a fluent 66 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. In the past, Sanju Samson has dominated Arshdeep Singh, scoring 39 runs off 22 balls at a blazing strike rate of 177.27 without being dismissed, smashing 4 fours and 2 sixes.
Another bright spot has been Dhruv Jurel, who impressed with a blistering 70-run knock against SRH. Jurel has accumulated 91 runs in three games and looks promising as a finisher who can change games single-handedly. Nitish Rana has made an immediate impact since ing the playing XI in the second match. He played a match-winning innings of 81 off just 36 balls against Chennai Super Kings, helping RR secure their first victory of the season.
Wanindu Hasaranga will lead the bowling attack with Jofra Archer, Tushar Deshpande, and Maheesha Theeksana. Hasaranga has 5 wickets in two games. He picked up four wickets in the last game. He will be the bowler to watch out for. Deshpande picked up three wickets in the first game but remained wicketless in the next two games. Despite showing resilience against CSK, Rajasthan's bowlers have overall struggled with consistency, particularly at the death, where they have leaked crucial runs.
Key Players: Sanju Samson, Nitish Rana, Wanindu Hasaranga.
Dhruv Jurel has scores of 3, 33 & 70 this season, he is good form and is a reliable batter in the middle order for Rajasthan Royals. Jurel is likely to be the designated finisher alongside Hetmyer and is expected to make a significant contribution aginst the Kings.
Riyan Parag's move to number 4 seemed to pay off in the last match with a valuable innings of 37 runs off 28 balls, including two sixes and two fours. Given his natural timing and ability to hit sixes comfortably, we are backing him to play another crucial knock against PBKS and hit over 1.5 sixes.
After a couple of low scores, Nitish Rana made an emphatic comeback against CSK in the last match scoring 81 runs in 36 balls. When Rana gets going, he can single handedly change the momentum of the game. Against Punjab Kings, Rana has scored 284 runs in 14 matches and we back him to continue his good run of form and score over 22 runs in today's match.

We are backing the home team, Punjab Kings to win the coin toss in match 18 of TATA IPL 2025.
The average total match score in the last 5 IPL matches played at Mullanpur is 335. Three of the five matches recorded scores over 350 runs. With the kind of batting lineup the Kings and Royals boast, expect a high scoring match and we predict the total match score to be over 348 runs.
In the last IPL season, five games were played at this venue. The results have favored the team chasing the target on three occasions. The team winning the toss should bowl first.
Punjab Kings have looked more confident compared to the Rajasthan Royals this season. The bowlers were always the plus side of the Rajasthan Royals, but this season, they have lacked consistency. Shreyas Iyer is breathing fire with a strike rate of 206.94. PBKS top-order has a collective strike rate of 190.
We predict that Punjab Kings will defeat Rajasthan Royals!
