Queensland Preview

Queensland are making it habit of ending at the bottom of the table in the Sheffield Shield tournament. In the last season as well they were at the bottom of the table with just 2 wins in 10 games. They lost six matches and drew two.

In the current Sheffield Shields season, Queensland have played four matches so far and have managed to draw three but lost one game. Queensland started the season with a draw against Western Australia. In their second game, they were defeated by South Australia by 129 runs. Winning the toss and bowling first, Queensland managed to restrict South Australia for 314 runs. Michael Nessar and Tom Whitney took 8 wickets among them. Tom Whitney was the top bowler with 5 wickets for 57 runs.

In reply, Queensland were neck-to-neck in their first innings, scoring 308, thanks to the rear-guard effort by Jimmy Pearson, who scored 94 runs, batting at number 7. South Australia managed a lead of 358, which Queensland could not chase down and were short by 129 runs. Jack Clayton scored 91 runs in the second innings for Queensland.

Queensland drew the next two games against New South Wales and Tasmania. They are yet to a win, but at least they are not losing in bulk like in the last season. However, there is a long way to go for Queensland and they will hope they find the groove in this game against Victoria.

Victoria Preview

With 4 wins in 10 games, Victoria could not move to the finals of Sheffield Shield tournament in the last season. They have started the season exceedingly well and are sitting at the top of the table after four games with two wins, one loss, and one draw.

Victoria started the season with a drawn game against Tasmania. Their first win came against a top team, New South Wales, where Victoria won by 141 runs. Fergus O'Neill's all-round performance helped Victoria defeat the mighty New South Wales. O'Neill took five wickets in the match and scored 61 runs as well.

In the third game, Victoria lost by 138 runs to South Australia, but they came back strongly in the last game against Western Australia to defeat them by 8 wickets. It was Fergus O'Neill again who took seven wickets in the match and scored 44 runs.

A strong batting show in the first innings followed by a good bowling performance helped Victoria get their second win against South Australia. The team looks in great shape and the wins should boost their confidence. It should not be too difficult for this Victorian team to beat Queensland.

Key players: Fergus O Neill, Marcus Harris, Peter Handscomb

Victoria Predicted Playing XI:

Marcus Harris, Ashley Chandrasinghe, Campbell Kellaway, Peter Handscomb (c), Thomas Rogers, Sam Harper (wk), Samuel Elliott, Fergus O Neill, Xavier Crone, Todd Murphy, Peter Siddle
