With Quarter finals coming close, the table toppers from the south group are all set to take on the Hampshire Hawks at Kennington Oval, London on 18th July from 11 PM onwards. This will be a practice game for Surrey before they play the Quarters at home on September 3rd. Though they don’t know who will be their opponents, this will be a good chance for them to test their bench strength.
Surrey played against Essex in their last game at Chelmsford. The top-order struggled a bit against the spin attack as they lost three wickets in 7 balls between 6th & 7th over, But Will Jacks stood firm hitting 5 sixes and 6 fours in his innings of 86 runs of 46 deliveries. Essex’s Adam Rossington kept Surrey tight on the rope, but Chris Jordan (3), Jordan Clark (2), and Cameron Steel (2) ran havoc against the remaining batters to seal the victory for Surrey by 13 runs.
On the other hand, Hampshire Hawks suffered a massive defeat by 9 wickets at the hands of Somerset. Batting first, Hampshire managed to score 157 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Tom Prest scored 51 off 32. Tom Banton & Tom Kohler-Core chased the target with 2 overs in hand. Benny Howell was the only bowler from the Hampshire side to take a wicket.
Both teams started this season with a game against each other. Hampshire scored 162 in the first innings with the help of Toby Albert’s 46 in the middle. Tom Curran took 3 wickets for Surrey. With 64 needed in the last 6 overs, Tomm Curran took the matter into his hands, this time with the bat, to score an unbeaten knock of 37 off 20 balls. Surrey beat Hampshire by 5 wickets with 4 balls remaining.

The quarterfinalists will be looking forward to testing their bench strength against the Hawks. Will Jacks will open the innings with Dom Sibley. Jacks have played just two games for Surrey this season scoring 95 runs at a strike rate of 175.92. Sibley is having a poor run with the bat. He has scored 109 runs in 7 innings at an average of 18.16. Surrey should bring their leading run-scorer Jamie Smith in the squad. Smith has 285 runs in 7 games at a strike rate of 205.03 - the highest among the Surrey batters. If he plays he will be the batter to watch out for.
Laurie Evans will come at number three. Evans has 244 runs on his name at a strike rate of 159.47. With Ollie Pope unavailable due to international commitments, Sam Curran will lead the middle order with Rory Burns and Jamie Overton. Burns, who is not an ideal choice at the current stage due to his lack of form, will have a huge task on his shoulders to prove his worth. Curran has 59 runs at a strike rate of 137 with the bat and has also claimed a wicket with the ball.
Skipper Chris Jordan will lead the bowling unit with Jordan Clark and Cameron Steel. The trio took 7 wickets in the last game against Essex to secure a crucial victory by 13 runs. Tom Curran should replace Daniel Worrall in the squad. The match winner of the first game against Hampshire has 14 wickets in 7 games for Surrey at an average of 11.14 - the lowest among all.

The chances of qualifying for the knockouts are almost over for the Hampshire Hawks. Their remaining two games are against the teams from the top four pool. So this will be a game for them to end the season on a high note. Ben McDermott and James Vince will open the innings for them. Vince who was the leading run-scorer of the last season (670) has just 219 runs this season at a strike rate of 123. On the other hand, McDermott is also struggling with his form.
Tom Prest will come at number three. Prest scored a half-century in the last game against Somerset. James Weatherly will be the batter to watch out for. Weatherly is Hampshire’s leading run scorer with 299 runs in 9 innings at a strike rate of 125.10. Benny Howell and James Fuller will come in the middle. The duo have a strike rate of over 165. But they are not scoring as many runs as the Hamshire expects in the middle.
Fuller is also their leading wicket-taker. In the absence of Michael Nesser, Fuller now has 10 wickets at an economy of 9.24. He will lead the bowling attack with Benny Howell and Liam Dawson. The duo has 14 wickets together with an economy of just over 7.5. So far, neither the batting nor the bowling unit of Hampshire has impressed the fans.

The 92nd match of the Vitality Blast will be played at Kennington Oval, London on 18th July from 11 PM onwards. The venue has a capacity of 23500 spectators. It has hosted 107 Tests, 81 ODIs, and 21 T20Is This will be the seventh game of the season at this venue..
In 21 T20I games, 11 have been won by the teams batting first. But the defense has shown some nail-biting finishes. This season also three teams have won the games defending target against the one loss. The team winning the toss should bat first here.
Though there are no batters or bowlers in the top 5 run-scorers or wicket-takers list from Surrey, they have performed in both units as a team. With qualification to quarters already secured, Surrey will be more lethal against the visitors. They have 4 wins against Hampshire in the last 5 games. Whereas, the Hawks have just one victory in the last 5 games.
We predict that Surrey will defeat Hampshire.
