With the group stage of this season's BBL coming to a close with this fixture, both Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Renegades will want to put on a show to mark the end of very poor campaigns.
Sydney Thunder won their third game of this competition, but apart from that, with the exception of a no-result on December 30th, they have lost every other contest. Plenty of cricket fans will be particularly shocked at this when they see the top order of Alex Hales, Cameron Bancroft and David Warner!
For the Renegades, they come into this game with a two point lead above Thunder. However, defeat in this match will see them end the season at the bottom of the pile.

It was a heavy 9-wicket defeat for Sydney Thunder in their last match of the tournament and as a result we would be surprised if they did not make at least one change for this game. Furthermore, their season is over and there is not much difference between finishing in either seventh or eighth in the BBL table so they may as well give opportunities to some younger players.
They do have plenty of experienced heads in the side though, and if the trio at the top of the batting order - Hales, Warner and Bancroft - can all play their part, then they will be hard to beat.
But they must be more threatening with the ball after only Tanveer Sangha took a wicket out of the six-man bowling attack against Adelaide Strikers.

Although it has been a season to forget for Melbourne Renegades, they have been able to recognise the significant contributions to their side and to Australian cricket from two titans of the game this season. Aaron Finch played in his final BBL match in the Melbourne derby on the weekend and this game will see Shaun Marsh finally play his last game of professional cricket.
Marsh will be a big loss for the Renegades and he is one of the few players in the team in strong form! He took the Player of the Match Award in the Melbourne derby with 64 not out from 49 balls and he has hit three half-centuries from five innings in this campaign. Jake Fraser-McGurk, at only 22 years of age, is another in red who has been batting to a high standard.
This pitch will turn on Wednesday evening and the twin-spin attack of Akeal Hosein and Adam Zampa will be tough to face and will also provide a stern test for Netherlands keeper Scott Edwards who we expect to play.

It has been an ugly and disappointing season for both Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Renegades, and the weather does not look like bringing much cheer to either club in this game! There will be a chance of thunderstorms throughout the match with plenty of cloud cover and high humidity from start to finish.
Spinners enjoy bowling at the Sydney Showground Stadium and it would be a surprise if the top bowlers in this game were the quicks! There is not a great deal of pace in the wicket and a par score is likely to be no higher than 155.
Teams batting second have won 16 T20s at this venue with those batting first ending on the winning side on 15 occasions. With the statistics not providing an obvious answer, we expect both captains to opt to field first ahead of this game if they win the toss.
Sydney Thunder certainly have the players who could pull off a surprise win from nowhere but throughout this campaign we have not seen enough consistency from the team with either bat or ball. Melbourne Renegades come into this game after a confidence building win over their city rivals and we expect Scott Edwards to be a positive addition to the side. We are predicting a win for the Renegades to end the group stage of this season's BBL.
