The business end of the second season of MLC is almost here, and we’ve got just one group game left to play. Texas Super Kings will be taking on Seattle Orcas on their home strip.
Seattle Orcas campaign’s dreams of reaching the knockouts is over, but Texas Super Kings have a lot to play for considering that they will be playing the eliminator against MI New York within 24 hours of this game being completed. So, it’s pretty much a dress rehearsal for TSK for the big challenge in front them.
A lot has changed over a season for these teams in a year. Both teams finished the group stage last year as table toppers, but Seattle Orcas is at the foot of the points table with just one win from 6 games, and Texas Super Kings with 2 wins from 6 games so far has managed to steer clear from other teams to finish the group stage on third position.
Both teams have met once in the brief history of this competition. Their Morrisville encounter ended up being a walk in the park for Seattle Orcas who bowled with discipline to restrict Texas to 127 and then romped home with 8 wickets to spare.

Texas Super Kings have had a middling campaign in this year’s MLC with 2 wins and 2 losses in their encounters that have had results. They’re lucky to get two points from two washed-out games, but that was enough for them to secure their berth in the knockouts.
With MI New York waiting for them in the eliminator, TSK will be looking to take full advantage of their final group game fixture against a much weaker opponent in SEO, who look battered and bruised at the moment following five defeats in six games. A win here will give them a much-needed morale boost going into the eliminator.
With one hundred and two fifties against his name, Faf du Plessis is in a league of his own. His former opening pair at CSK, Devon Conway has done well, too, with 180 runs from 5 games. The two West Australians namely veteran Marcus Stoinis and his understudy Aaron Hardie haven’t done much to contribute to the team’s cause with the bat.
TSK’s bowling hasn’t troubled the opposition at all except for the left arm pace of Pakistan bowler Zia-ul-Haq, who has picked up 6 wickets from 5 games with a best of 2/15 in a match. The unit looks far from settled with bowlers not being given a solid run, and that’s a big concern for team Texas.

Seattle Orcas have had a shocker of a tournament so far. They lost their opener to MI New York but quickly rebounded with a win against Los Angeles Knight Riders courtesy a Ryan Rickleton batting masterclass. However, four straight defeats, two in the hands of San Francisco Unicorns and one from Los Angeles and Washington, had basically put paid to their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages.
Having finished runner-up last year, they have sunk to the bottom of the points table this season. Even a win in this encounter against TSK will not help them avoid finishing at the bottom, and they’re sure to carry the wooden spoon this season. But still they will look to finish on a high. Protean batter Ryan Rickleton has been in sublime form with 225 runs from 5 appearances, including one century and a half century. Quinton de Kock hasn’t been at his destructive best, but he has still made useful contribution to the team’s batting scoring 144 runs from 6 games with two half centuries to his name. Third on the run scorer list for SEO is another South African Heinrich Klaasen.
Having taken Proteas close to their first trophy win last month, he was expected to carry that form into MLC but he hasn’t quite been able to do that. 93 runs from 6 games from a player of his pedigree isn’t much but it’s a fair indication of SEO’s poor showing with the bat this season. They look a much-organized unit bowling-wise, with lesser-known players stepping up to the plate such as Cameron Gannon and Harmeet Singh.

Dallas has been a good cricketing wicket where both batsmen and bowlers have found purchase. Any score upwards of 165 or 170 looks above par if your bowling unit can back it up. The forecast is mostly good for the match and it looks like it will be a bit cloudy throughout and we might see an odd rain delay.

The match is set to be played at the Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas. This will be the first encounter between these two teams on this venue.
Chasing teams have won three of the last three matches, so the team that wins toss will most likely look to put the opposition in to have a bat first.
Texas Super Kings are a better batting unit and they’ll fancy their chances if the wicket is good for batting. Texas to win.
