After the humiliating loss in the first test match by 295 runs, Australia will take on India in the 2nd Test of the 5-match Test series at Adelaide Oval on 6th December 2024. It was an unexpected loss for Australia that shocked the entire cricketing world. Not just the defeat, but the manner in which Australia lost puts some serious questions on their batting.
It has been a tough year for batters across the world, but no one expected India to come here after 0-3 drubbing against New Zealand, at home, and get their third-largest Test win away from home. It's going to be a pink ball test. Played in day-night hours at Adelaide Oval. Australia have never lost a pink ball test. But you cannot underestimate the highly confident Indian side whose bowling is led by perhaps the greatest seam bowler of our time, Jasprit Bumrah. It is going to be tooth and nail fight in the day-night Test at Adelaide between two of the best Test playing teams.

How's that for a stat? Australia have won only one Test Series after being 0-1 down in the first game home and away since 1970. These are not the stats you want to go with, in a very important test series against a very good test team.
Add to it the fact that 2024 has been the worst year for Australia batters in a long, long time. In the first test at Perth, Australia's top four made just 29 runs between them in 8 innings.
Barring Alex Carey, everyone else is averaging under 30 this year in Test Cricket. Australia's top 7 batters batting average this year is better only than Bangladesh and West Indies. Even in of centuries, Australia have scored just 2 centuries so far this year, India scored 2 in the previous Test itself.
The only glimmer of hope for Australia is that this is a day-night pink ball test. They have a formidable record in pink ball tests. They have won 11 out of 12 games so far. Losing only to West Indies earlier this year at Gabba, Brisbane. Again, the loss in the day-night test has come in this year for Australia.
While Australia's bowling is as good as any, the batters have no clue what's going on. And when you put someone like Bumrah in the equation, the situation does not look good for Australia. They will have to bat out of their skin against a confident India to have any chance of coming back into the series with a win at Adelaide.

A couple of weeks ago, nobody would have anticipated that India would defeat Australia at Perth. India were coming off of a 0-3 loss at home against New Zealand, their first series loss in 12 years. Additionally, they were missing a couple of key batters in Rohit Sharma and Shabman Gill. And yet they managed to defeat Australia by 295 runs.
India also made a brave decision of keeping two of the world's best all-rounders in R. Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja out of the playing XI at Perth. When India were all out for 150 in the first innings of the Perth Test, Indian fans must have feared the worst. It was the stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah who broke the back of Australian batting and the rest of the bowlers stood up to restrict Australia for a paltry 104 runs in the first innings. India then showed Australia how to bat in Australia in the second innings. Australia, despite a better batting show in the second innings, never had a chance.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, and more importantly for India, Virat Kohli went on to score centuries and took the game away from Australia. Kohli loves Adelaide and has already scored multiple hundreds at this venue. However, when it comes to winning a test match bowlers play an important role and that's where Jasprit Bumrah is the most important player for India in this game.
The pink ball swings more and stays new for longer it should prove lethal in the hands of Jasprit Bumrah. He was man of the match in the previous game and he should be the one Australians will be most fearful about in this game as well. India are in with a chance to create history and they also have the world test championship final qualification on the line. Expect India to give away nothing to the Australian team.

The weather on the match day at Adelaide Oval might pose a threat to the start of the Test match. It's good that the start is delayed due to this being a day-night Test, because the weather suggests that there might be some morning thunderstorms. The temperature would range between a high of 30°C and a low of 22°C. From day 2 onwards, the conditions are better for playing a cricket match.

Average TurnEstablished way back in 1871, it hosted the first Test match in 1884 between England and Australia. Ever since, it has been one of the premier venues in Australia hosting Test, ODI, and T20 International. The seating capacity at this ground is 53,500 approximately. It is one of the most beautiful cricket grounds globally and a batter's paradise. It is also the venue in Australia where most of the pink ball tests have been played.
Adelaide Oval is predominantly a bat first venue. Out of the 63 Tests that have ended in an outright result at this venue, 40 have been won by the teams back in first, while 23 have been won by the teams back in second. First inning totals at this venue are generally on the higher side. The team winning the toss should bat first here.
What a setup it is for the pink ball test. Down and out in the home series, India came back strongly at Perth to defeat Australia by a huge margin. Australia on the other hand have been facing some batting issues. They have had one of the worst batting years in 2024. They also lost their first pink ball Test in this year to West Indies. We believe with the confidence that India got after Perth, they would go all out and will have an upper hand against Australia at Adelaide.
