The three match T20 series is delicately poised at 1-1: the visitors managed a nervy 3-run win in the first encounter after Jaker Ali’s late order effort took the hosts to the brink of victory. Nevertheless, the hosts bounced back with a bang to secure a thumping victory in the second T20I, and forced a decider. As a result, this final match of the series now promises to be a nail-biter.
Bangladesh has the momentum going into the decider and will be looking to seal the series win. Sri Lanka, however, will be desperate to make amends for two back to back poor starts with the bat and some pretty ordinary bowling in the middle overs. But they’ve Hasaranga coming in for this match, so they’ll go into this match with better balance for sure.
With the T20 world cup round the corner, a series win will be a massive confidence boost for either team so they will be going hard at each other.
The first T20 showcased the potential of the lower middle-order batters to put their team back on course to clinching a tight victory, despite a wobbly start to the chase. They fell short by 3 runs but learned their lessons. Openers Sowmya Sarkar and Litton Das played more sensibly to lay the foundation for a big run chase and shaved a big chunk off the runs required in the powerplay. A controversial decision by the third umpire went Bangladesh’s way and the Sri Lankans were not pleased but the openers kept the runs flowing to pile on the agony. Captain Shanto made a crucial half century to complete the chase. But the win was set up by the Bangladeshi bowlers who executed their skills way better than they could in the first match. While Shoriful Islam and Rishad Hossain bowled too well to not take a wicket, Taskin Ahmed, Mahedi Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman went for runs. Going into the decider, Bangladesh will be hoping to set a good base and use it to launch itself to a huge total. Their bowlers will need to replicate their efforts from the second T20 and bowl with discipline all the way through to restrict Sri Lanka to a par or slightly par total.

Sri Lanka’s journey in the T20I series against Bangladesh has been a rollercoaster. In the first match, they secured a narrow 3-run win. Their batting was impressive, with openers Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama building a solid base and captain Charith Asalanka providing late fireworks with some powerful hitting. Defending a huge total, they bowled with confidence early on to wreck the Bangladesh top order, but Bangladesh never gace in and took the game deep. Jaker Ali’s late-blitz gave them a real scare but Dasun Shanaka’s heroics in the final over sealed the game for the Lankans.
However, the second match saw the tide turn. Sri Lanka’s batting faltered after Avishka Fernando fell cheaply again-- this time for a duck. But the Mendis' show made sure the batters to come had a platform to launch off of. None of the three batsmen who crossed 30 could click into higher gear and lead the team to a massive total. 165 was all they could manage and they soon found out it was not going to be enough against a spirited top order batting performance from the hosts. The Sri Lankan bowlers struggled to contain the aggressive Bangladesh openers and failed to make regular breakthroughs, allowing the hosts to canter to victory.
Heading in into the series decider, the third T20, they will need to sort out a few issues. The key for the Lankans is to get their top order to contribute heavily, and to get their bowlers to send down a few economical overs early on and then right through the middle to put pressure on the hosts.
Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis (wk), Kamindu Mendis, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka (c), Angelo Mathews, Dasun Shanaka, Maheesh Theekshana, Dilshan Madushanka, Binura Fernando, Matheesha Pathirana.

The strip at Sylhet has been helpful for batting. With close to 800 runs scored in the first two fixtures, the third fixture is likely to be another high scoring game. Bowlers need to be spot on with their line and length or else they’ll pay a huge price. The forecast looks fine and we’re hoping that there won’t be any delay due to weather.
The match will be played at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Sylhet. Their win in the second T20I gave Bangladesh their very first win over the Lankans at this venue.
Bangladesh has done pretty well chasing in both the matches, despite falling short by 3 runs in the first. No guesses as to what Bangladesh will do if they end up winning the toss. Sri Lanka might also be curious to see how they go about chasing.
Sri Lanka looked a bit off color in the second T20I. But we still think they’ll quickly regroup, work out better plans, and come back hard in the decider to take the series 2-1.
Our prediction is for Sri Lanka to win this match.
