The fourth game of IPL 2025 pits Delhi Capitals against Lucknow Super Giants in Visakhapatnam. Delhi fell short last season, failing to reach the playoff stage and ending the group stage in sixth place. Lucknow performed even more poorly, finishing seventh in the standings. While both teams will be hungry to open their campaign with a victory, Delhi appear stronger than the injury-plagued Lucknow and will enter as favorites for this matchup.

Delhi Capitals will be looking to turn things around after missing out on the playoffs for three straight seasons. They made several changes during the mega auction, bringing in fresh talent and restructuring their squad. Axar Patel has been named captain, taking over from Rishabh Pant, who has moved on to Lucknow and will now face his former team in this match.
Batting at the top remains Delhi’s strongest suit this season. With Jake Fraser-McGurk, Faf du Plessis, and KL Rahul expected to lead the charge, their top order looks well-balanced. Fraser-McGurk impressed last year with his aggressive stroke play, striking at 234.
Meanwhile, Du Plessis and Rahul add the experience and consistency that was missing in the previous campaign. Rahul, in particular, has been incredibly reliable, scoring 500+ runs in six of the last seven IPL seasons, making him a strong candidate to deliver a big performance in this match.
Axar Patel’s all-round skills could be a game-changer. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball, especially in the middle overs, will be vital to Delhi’s success.
Bowling is an area of concern, however, for the Capitals. Their Indian fast-bowling unit—Mukesh Kumar, Mohit Sharma, and T Natarajan—lacks recent international experience. Mitchell Starc will be tasked with leading the attack, but his tendency to leak runs in the powerplay could be a problem, as seen last season.
Rishabh Pant has averaged four fours per game in his last two IPL matches played at Vizag. Overall, he averages 2.3 fours per game in the six IPL matches he has played at Vizag. Pant is known for his destructive batting and scores most of his runs in boundaires. Given his record at this venue, we back Pant to hit over 2.5 fours against DC.

Like Delhi, Lucknow Super Giants too head into IPL 2025 with a fresh squad and a new leader at the helm— Rishabh Pant. After two strong seasons that ended in playoff disappointment, they slipped to seventh place last year. In response, the team has made bold moves, handing Pant the captaincy and assembling a squad packed with talent. Their lineup includes aggressive batsmen, seasoned bowlers, and versatile all-rounders ready to make an impact.
Pant was Delhi Capitals’ top scorer last season with 446 runs, despite just returning from injury. Now fully fit, he is expected to be the backbone of LSG’s batting unit. The team will also count on Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran to accelerate the scoring in the middle overs, while Ayush Badoni, Abdul Samad, and David Miller add firepower at the back end. Miller, known for his finishing abilities, will be a crucial asset in closing out games.
Injuries have unsettled Lucknow’s pace bowling attack. Avesh Khan and Akash Deep are unavailable for the first game as they continue their rehabilitation, while Mohsin Khan has been ruled out for the season. Mayank Yadav is also set to miss the first half as he recovers. To reinforce the attack, LSG have added bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur, whose inclusion provides much-needed depth.
On the spin side, they are better placed with Ravi Bishnoi being the main trump card. He can bowl in the powerplay if the seamers are leaking runs and can also take crucial wickets in the middle overs. Shahbaz Ahmed, Badoni, and Aiden Markram offer additional spin options for control in the middle overs.
Rishabh Pant (c & wk), Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh, Nicholas Pooran, Ayush Badoni, Abdul Samad, David Miller, Shahbaz Ahmed, Ravi Bishnoi, Shardul Thakur /Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Akash Singh/Prince Yadav Impact Player options: M Siddharth, Arshin Kulkarni

Spinners find help on this pitch where the ball stays low, which can complicate batting in the second innings, though nighttime dew occasionally tips the scales. That said, the last few matches here have produced high scores with batters enjoying excellent conditions.
The weather in Visakhapatnam will be partly cloudy with a couple of showers in the afternoon that could lead to a delay in the start of the game.

High TurnTeams batting first at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium typically score around 168 runs. But last season told a different story, as the surface proved extremely batting-friendly. In the two matches hosted here, first-innings totals reached impressive heights of 191-5 and a massive 272-7. Both teams will be eyeing a first innings total of around 180-200.
The average total match 4's in the last two IPL seasons played at Vizag is 31.5. Last season in both the games played between DC and LSG the total match 4's tally was 34 and 31. We predict a boundary fest in today's game and the total match 4's to be over 29.5.
We predict the luck to be in favour of the home team, Delhi Capitals and back them to win the coin toss.
The pitch at Vizag favours the batters, where high scoring games are a norm at this venue in T20's. Last season the average total match score in the two IPL games played was 400. DC and LSG are known for their destructive batting lineups, expect a flat track and high scoring game.
Batting first is usually the preferred option at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium. In fact, both matches last season in the IPL at this venue saw the team bating first comfortable wins.
Lucknow Super Giants may have some heavy hitters in their batting lineup, but their bowling attack is a major weak spot. With most of their fast bowlers unavailable, Delhi Capitals have a clear edge and will look to take full advantage of that. Unless Lucknow's batters turn up big time, Axar Patel’s Capitals look well-placed to come away with the win.
