India will take on Bangladesh in the 1st semi-final of the Women’s Asia Cup 2024. Bangladesh will be delighted with their comeback after losing to Sri Lanka in the opening game.
Though it seems like India will be too strong for Bangladesh, the latter will be confident after the recent wins. Opener Murshida Khatun and skipper Nigar Sultana are in great touch in the top 3 and will play a key role in helping Bangladesh stay competitive in this match.
India have cruised to the semis and we are confident they should reach the finals with ease. There has been no serious competition for India and even the most successful team from Group B poses no real threat.
India’s bowling attack will prove to be too good for the back-in-form Bangladesh Women. They may have delivered match-winning performances but only against teams like Malaysia and Thailand.
Khatun, who scored two consecutive fifties, scored one at a strike rate below 100 against Thailand. There is no need to spell out what will happen when she faces India’s bowlers in this match.

India tried a different opening combination in their last outing against Nepal and it worked out just fine. Smriti Mandhana, the stand-in captain for the game, sent Dayalan Hemalatha to open with Shafali Verma.
While we don’t expect the same combination for the knockout match against Sri Lanka, Hemalatha’s success has secured her position at number 3. And this also strengthens India’s top order with Shafali Verma already in great touch.
India beat Bangladesh 5-0 in the recent T20I series on their tour of Bangladesh. Whereas, in their face-off at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, India Women bowled out Bangladesh for just 51 runs in the semi-final.
Renuka Singh, Deepti Sharma, and Pooja Vastrakar are the key Indian bowlers to watch out for. In their last outings against Bangladesh Women, Vastrakar and Radha Yadav were among the most impactful bowlers for India.
Though Bangladesh also feature some quality bowlers, India will still have the upper hand given the depth and experience in their batting lineup.
The likes of Harmanpreet Kaur, Richa Ghosh, and Jemimah Rodrigues in the middle order make India invincible as far as batting is concerned.

Bangladesh Women have delivered a few good performances in their recent outings leading to their qualification for the semis. However, they still seem to be far from being considered a threat to India.
Nigar Sultana scored a brilliant 37-ball 62-run knock in her last innings and has raised hopes for the side. Murshida Khatun and her opening partner Dilara Akter also scored at a much-improved strike rate that helped Bangladesh post a 191-run total while batting first.
However, this performance came against Malaysia who had conceded 184 runs against Sri Lanka in their previous match. This was the only game where Bangladesh had a top-scorer who scored at a strike rate of more than 100.
This shows that Bangladesh's batting hasn’t been that great so far. The recent win over Malaysia may help them gain some confidence but doesn’t reflect highly on their skills and ability.
There is great variety in the bowling attack and skipper Sultana will back her bowlers to give the team an edge over India. Nahida Akter will be the key wicket-taking bowler to watch out for. They’ve also got the likes of Ritu Moni and Rumana Ahmed who can each deliver a couple of impactful overs.
Dilara Akter, Murshida Khatun, Ishma Tanjim, Ritu Moni, Rumana Ahmed, Nigar Sultana (c & wk), Rabeya Khan, Shorna Akter, Jahanara Alam, Nahida Akter, Sabikun Nahar

The weather will be mostly cloudy with a high of 33 degrees Celsius in Dambulla. There should be a great game of T20 cricket without any rain interruptions as India and Bangladesh eye the final berth.

Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla will be the venue for this match. It has hosted all the matches of the Women’s Asia Cup 2024. Teams have managed to cross the 180-run mark at this venue against weaker bowling attacks.
The pitch has enough help for the bowlers too. Quality bowling attack like that of India should be able to find plenty of help and trouble Bangladesh Women.
While there has been no clear advantage to the team batting first or second at this venue so far, we reckon batting first in a knockout game is always a great strategy. It is a pressure game and having runs on the board will be helpful for either team considering their bowling strengths.
India Women are a far superior side in comparison. Not only is the squad much stronger in of ability and experience, but they’ve also been in much better form and are clear favorites in our match prediction to win this semi-final.
