Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) take on Punjab Kings (PK) in the 44th match of IPL 2025 this Saturday night in Kolkata. KKR have struggled with form this season, picking up only three wins from eight games, putting them at seventh in the standings. Punjab are doing better, with five wins and three losses, holding fifth place. They’ve already taken down KKR once this year and look better placed to do it again.

It’s been a tough ride for defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders so far—just three wins in eight games, five losses, and they’re now sitting at seventh on the table. They’ve now lost back-to-back games for the first time this season, the latest being a heavy 39-run defeat to Gujarat Titans at home. The team looks worn down.
The batting unit hasn’t done them any favors. Apart from skipper Ajinkya Rahane, the rest have been patchy. Quinton de Kock was replaced by Rahmanullah Gurbaz last match, but the Afghan keeper could only chip in with 1 on his season debut.
Sunil Narine’s form at the top has been unpredictable, and both Venkatesh Iyer and Rinku Singh are having a hard time adjusting to the slower tracks. Andre Russell has hit a few out of the park, but overall hasn’t looked anywhere close to his usual self. Ramandeep Singh, given multiple shots, still hasn’t made any real impact.
One of the few positives is Angkrish Raghuvanshi. The youngster has scored 197 runs from 7 innings, averaging 38.71 with a strike rate of 149.24. But KKR’s habit of shifting him around the order hasn’t helped with stability.
The bowling has fared a bit better. Harshit Rana and Vaibhav Arora have handled the early spells decently, taking 20 wickets between them. The spin trio of Varun Chakaravarthy, Sunil Narine, and Moeen Ali have managed to apply some control through the middle overs. Russell, despite his quiet run with the bat, might still be useful with his cutters on this pitch.
Rinku Singh has scored 99 runs in 4 matches at Kolkata this season and is averaging a staggering 49.50, striking at 176.78. Batting at number 5 or 6 he will come to bat late in the innings and scores runs in quick time. We back the southpaw to provide the finishing touches and score over 16 runs against the Kings.
Rahane has scored 50, 61, 38 & 56 in the four matches played at Kolkata this season. He is in top form and has scored runs consistently leading from the front. With his team in desperate need of a win, expect another impactful knock from Rahane against PBKS.

Punjab Kings are hanging in there—five wins, three losses, and they’re currently fifth. In their last game, they went down by 7 wickets at home to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, a team they had beaten away not long before.
At the top, Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh have been aggressive early, but haven’t quite strung it together game after game. Shreyas Iyer has been steady at number three, piling up 263 runs from eight innings with a strike rate of 185.21. He’s looked assured and will be central to their batting again.
Nehal Wadhera has chipped in nicely through the middle overs, striking at 146. His knocks haven’t been long, but they’ve come at the right moments. Josh Inglis replaced Glen Maxwell but hasn’t offered much with the bat. Given the Eden surface, Punjab may rethink that swap just for the added spin option Maxwell brings.
Marcus Stoinis is hit-and-miss but dangerous when he connects. Shashank Singh has quietly done a good job closing games and can flip the momentum late.
With the ball, Arshdeep Singh has been steady—11 wickets in eight matches at an economy of 8.66. Marco Jansen has been expensive, but Punjab’s bench doesn’t offer much flexibility at this point.
Yuzvendra Chahal is beginning to find rhythm after a slow start—he’s up to 9 wickets in eight matches, with a 9.30 economy. Eden could suit him, and Harpreet Brar should enjoy the conditions too.
Yuzvendra Chahal has picked up four wickets earlier in the season against KKR defending a low total of 112. Spinners picked up 18 wickets in 4 matches at Eden Gardens this season and have been mighty effective. Chahal has taken 10 wickets in 10 matches at Kolkata.
Prabhsimran has been impactful at the top of the order for Punjab Kings this season and has racked up 209 runs in 8 matches, averaging 26.12. At Kolkata he has scored 66 runs in 2 matches, averaging 33. Given his current form, we back Prabhsimran Singh to score over 22 runs.
Shreyas Iyer has had a lean patch in the last three matches, where he managed to score 6, 7 & 0. He will be back at Eden Gardens where he won the title last year. At this venue he has scored 264 runs in 12 matches, averaging 26.40. We back him to bounce back and play a match winning knock against KKR and score over 26 runs.

Eden Gardens produced its trademark pitch last game - good for runs but with some natural slowness. Expect more of the same, with the ball gripping the pitch and batters needing to time their shots carefully. Slow bowlers should play a major role, putting extra importance on scoring freely during field restrictions. Kolkata's weather looks partly cloudy with high humidity in the evening hours.
No rain is predicted, meaning we'll likely see a complete 40 overs of action.

High TurnEden Gardens has produced an average first-innings score of 167 runs. During this year's IPL, four matches have been played here with just one offering a true batting paradise - the remaining three surfaces favored slower conditions while remaining decent for scoring. Should we get another slow track like last game's, teams will likely target 180-190 to post a competitive total.
The average total match fours in the four matches played at 41.75 this season. The surface favours the batters and it is a high scoring venue, where the outfield is fast and a boundary scoring venue.
The average total match score in the last 4 IPL matches played at Eden Gardens is 376. The last time PBKS & KKR played at Eden Gardens the total match score was well over 500. We predict another high scoring game on a good batting track and the total match score to cross the 379 mark.
We back the home team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to win the coin toss in match 44 of Tata IPL 2025.
Three of the four matches played at Eden Gardens in IPL 2025 have been won by the team batting first, which clearly shows that batting first is more advantageous here.
Defending champs Kolkata Knight Riders haven’t lived up to expectations. Their season is slipping away unless they start picking up wins soon. Punjab Kings, meanwhile, have done better overall, though when they’re off, they collapse hard. That’s the opening KKR will be looking to exploit. Punjab’s top order hasn’t found much rhythm, and if Eden Gardens gives us another slow track, they could be in for a tough time. Still, Kolkata have their own problems—batting that doesn’t click often enough and a bowling unit that’s been shaky. Based on recent form, Punjab feels like the safer bet.
We are backing Punjab Kings as the winners of this match.
