Match 31 of IPL 2025 has Punjab Kings (PK) facing Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Chandigarh this Tuesday. Punjab have dropped to sixth after losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad, but they’re still viewed as one of the more dangerous sides this season because of their batting. KKR, last year’s winners, haven’t had the easiest run either, sitting even with three wins and three losses. Punjab will hope home conditions work in their favor, though KKR have enough in the tank to make this a tough one.

Punjab Kings have had a decent run so far—three wins, two losses, and they’re sitting sixth on the table. Their last outing was a wild one, losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets in a game that saw 491 runs scored. Punjab smashed 245-6 but still couldn’t drag it past the finish line, with Hyderabad chasing it down with nearly two overs to spare. That pitch in Hyderabad was an absolute belter, and Punjab won’t want to overthink that result.
Up top, Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh have been doing the job early, setting the tone in the powerplay. Shreyas Iyer has been rock solid at number three, hammering 250 runs in five knocks at a strike rate of 208.33. He’s looked in complete control and will be expected to carry that form forward.
That said, not everything’s been smooth. Nehal Wadhera hasn’t quite found rhythm, and Glenn Maxwell has barely made a dent this season. Their lack of runs has made the middle overs a bit of a dead zone. Bringing Josh Inglis in could give the lineup a bit more bite.
Marcus Stoinis offered something to cheer about in the last game, slamming 34 off just 11 balls. Shashank Singh has done a solid job finishing things off and can turn a match around in no time.
The bowlers had a rough outing against Hyderabad. Arshdeep Singh, though, has held things together with 7 wickets in five games and an economy of 9.50. Marco Jansen’s been leaking runs and will need to tighten things up at the start. To make matters worse, Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2025 due to injury. Punjab are likely to use Yash Thakur or Vijaykumar Vyshak as his replacement for this game.
Yuzvendra Chahal hasn’t had much control through the middle either and has been taken apart a few times.
Shreyas Iyer has hit 16 fours in 5 matches, averaging 3.2 fours per game. He has been top notch with his boundary hitting and also scored runs consistently. Playing against his former team KKR that he lead to an IPL trophy last season, Iyer will be more foucsed than ever.
Shreyas Iyer has scored 250 runs in 5 matches and is the leading run-scorer for Punjab Kings this season. He is in sublime form and has scored three half centuires. But Iyer has struggled at Mullanpur scoring 19 runs in 2 matches, we back him to have a good outing and score over 27 runs against KKR.

Kolkata Knight Riders haven’t managed back-to-back wins in IPL 2025, but they’ve avoided back-to-back defeats too. After three wins and three losses, they’ve been making smart adjustments along the way to stay in the fight. Their latest result — an 8-wicket thumping of Chennai Super Kings on their turf — pushed them up to fourth in the standings.
The batting unit looks settled, though Quinton de Kock’s inconsistency hasn’t helped. Narine has made up for it with explosive starts, scoring at a rate of 190. Ajinkya Rahane, batting at No. 3, has been their most reliable contributor with 204 runs in six games at a strike rate of 154.54.
A smart move last game was sending Rinku Singh in at No. 4 — something they should’ve done earlier. He’s much more impactful when he has enough deliveries to work with. On the flip side, Andre Russell is still looking for rhythm with the bat, and Ramandeep Singh has barely made a mark. Venkatesh Iyer had one decent knock but hasn’t done much otherwise.
The bowling setup has found more stability. Harshit Rana and Vaibhav Arora have handled the early overs well, but the real pressure comes from the spin pair of Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine. Their combined eight overs have been tough to get away, and with Moeen Ali in the mix, they’ve got a strong spin core. Even though Russell hasn’t clicked with the bat, his slower balls could come in handy on this surface.
Rahane has scored 204 runs in 6 matches this season, in the last match against CSK, he played a quick fire cameo of 20 runs in 17 balls. Given his current form and consistency with the bat, we back Rahane to once again contribute and play a match winning knock against PBKS.

The pitch at Mullanpur has been excellent for batting, particularly in the first half. The ball comes on nicely to the bat, and batters can hit through the line to get their boundaries. Spinners will come into play once the pitch slows down a little in the second half, but it won’t be too dramatic.
The weather in Mullanpur will be hot and hazy, and it won’t be easy on the players. There is no forecast of rain, so we will get a full match.

Average TurnIn the two matches played at Mullanpur in IPL 2025, teams batting first have posted 205-4 and 219-6, respectively, and won the game quite comfortably in the end. Expect another high-scoring game with the team batting first eyeing a total of around 200-210 runs.
We back the home team Punjab Kings to win the coin toss in match 31 of Tata IPL 2025.
The average total match score in the last two matches played at Mullanpur is 390. It is a good batting track, where the team batting first won both the matches so far. Expect another high scoring game and the total match score to be over 369 runs.
Both the previous games of IPL 2025 held at Mullanpur, Chandigarh, have been won comfortably by the team batting first. This indicates that batting first is the safer option here.
Punjab Kings may be in sixth, but they’ve looked better than that, with three wins from five games. KKR have had their moments —sometimes brilliant, sometimes flat. Punjab’s batting looks dangerous and should be right at home on this surface. The issue, though, is with their bowling, which hasn’t held up under pressure and was exposed in their last game. KKR have it in them to upset anyone when things click. The question is which version of KKR will show up. There is no outright favorite in this one, and the match could go either way. Given KKR's confident win in their last game, the defending champs are likely to make better use of the conditions. Add to this the fact that Punjab have lost Lockie Ferguson, one of their main fast bowlers, and the scales tilt slightly towards KKR. We’d say this match is 51-49 in KKR' favour, although another strong batting performance from their top three could see Punjab clinching this.
We are backing Kolkata Knight Riders as the winners of this match.
