South Africa Women Preview

After a resounding win the first T20I, the South Africa Women let the foot off the pedal and allowed the visitors to dominate them in the second match. Batting first, they managed to put just 137-8 on the board, and Sri Lanka polished off the target with seven balls to spare.

The South Africans sorely missed their regular captain, Laura Wolvaardt, who was out due to illness. Wolvaardt, who had smashed a match-winning centurion in the first match, should be back in the eleven for the decider.

In her absence, Anneke Bosch scored a fine 50 off 32 balls and Marizanne Kapp showed her class with a gritty 44. However, the others didn’t step up.

If Wolvaardt returns, the batting unit will be bolstered.

On the bowling front, the Protea women will be hoping that the likes of Masabata Klaas (10 wickets in the last 10 matches at 7.46) and Nadine de Klerk (8 wickets in 7 matches at 7.46) deliver.

Marizanne Kapp has taken the new ball in both the matches and is expected to do the same here. She has been economical and her spell here will be crucial.

South Africa Women Predicted Playing XI:

Laura Wolvaardt (c), Tazmin Brits, Marizanne Kapp, Anneke Bosch, Chloe Tryon, Nadine de Klerk, Annerie Dercksen, Sinalo Jafta (wk), Nonkululeko Mlaba, Tumi Sekhukhune, Masabata Klaas

Sri Lanka Women Preview

Not many expected Sri Lanka Women to make a comeback after the 79-run thumping they received in the first T20I. However, they played out of their skins to surprise the hosts and restrict them to a below par score.

Leading from the front, Sri Lanka's skipper, Chamari Athapaththu set the tone with figures of 1 for 18 and maintained an economy of 4.50. Seam bowler Achini Kulasuriya further reinforced Sri Lanka's dominance with an outstanding spell, securing 2 wickets for 26 runs.

Inoshi Priyadharshani has picked up a wicket each in both the matches and has looked good. Her spell can make a huge difference in the outcome of the final game.

However, it was rising star Vishmi Gunaratne who stole the show with a sublime 65* off 57 balls to anchor the chase perfectly.

Now, if Chamari Athapaththu (256 runs in the last 10 matches at an average of 28.44 and a strike rate of 135) and Harshitha Samarawickrama (215 runs in the last 9 matches at an average of 53.75 and a strike rate of 93.47) play to potential, Sri Lanka will have a real chance of securing a famous series win.

Kavisha Dilhari, who scored a fluent unbeaten 45 off 28 balls in the second T20I, is another one to watch out for.

Sri Lanka Women Predicted Playing XI:

Chamari Athapaththu (c), Harshitha Samarawickrama, Vishmi Gunaratne, Hasini Perera, Nilakshi de Silva, Kavisha Dilhari, Anushka Sanjeewani (wk), Inoka Ranaweera, Inoshi Priyadharshani, Achini Kulasuriya, Udeshika Prabodhani

Weather Conditions

The wicket in Buffalo Park has something for batters and bowlers alike. Seam bowlers will enjoy bowling on this track and should get considerable movement off the pitch when the ball is new. Spinners, too will find help here. Batters will need to get their eye in before they can start playing their strokes freely.

The weather in East London will be partly cloudy in the morning and bright and warm in the afternoon.

RSAW vs SLW Pitch Report

The average first innings score at Buffalo Park is 128. The highest total posted here is India Women’s 167/2 against West Indies Women in 2023. They won that match by 56 runs. The team batting first in this match will be looking to set a target of around 160 runs.

Toss: To Bat

Out of the seven women’s T20Is played at Buffalo Park, four have been won by the team batting second and three by the side batting first. However, since this is a decider, the team winning the toss would be tempted to bat first and try to bat the opposition out of the game.

Sri Lanka Women have now won two of their last three T20Is against South Africa Women. With that last win, they will now be feeling pretty confident of their chances. However, we still reckon the home side are favorites to win this clash. They weren’t up to the task in the second game, but that loss will have shaken them up. Plus, regular captain Laura Wolvaardt should return for the decider, giving the team a massive boost. We expect South Africa Women to dominate this contest and clinch the series.

Back South Africa Women to win the third T20I and take the series 2-1.
