South Africa Women crushed the visiting team in the first T20I of the series. It did not seem like this was the same Sri Lankan team that had won their last away series and also defeated the Proteas in the T20 World Cup.
It was a completely one-sided game where the hosts posted a 198-run total and defended it in style. Sri Lanka had no answers at all. They were outplayed in both departments.
Their key bowlers including the skipper Chamari Athapathuthu failed to make an impact and allowed the Proteas batters to get away with a big total.
We had already pointed out in our match prediction for the last game that Sri Lanka Women haven’t got many reliable batters in the middle-order and are dependent on the skipper.
Only Hasini Perera showed any promise with the bat as Sri Lanka lost by a huge margin while chasing 199 runs. In the past, Sri Lankan batters have struggled with their strike rates and that will be a huge concern going ahead in this series.

South Africa Women are off to a great start. Any doubts about the T20 World Cup encounter being repeated have been put to rest. Wolvaardt and Co. have established their dominance over Sri Lanka Women.
The venue in Potchefstroom for the 2nd T20I is a low-scoring one and the bowlers will play a key role. As such, the visitors will be backing themselves to make a comeback in this match.
Skipper Laura Wolvaardt and Tamzin Brits will be expected to lead the way for the hosts in the batting lineup. Marizanne Kapp looked in great touch as she scored 60 off 40 balls at number 3.
There are some quality batters in the middle order such as Sune Luus, Chloe Tryon, and Nadine de Klerk. These three will come into play in this match if South Africa Women are put to bat first once again.
If Wolvaardt and Kapp are out cheaply, these three will have a big responsibility of rebuilding the innings. Kapp, Klerk, and Tryon were all successful with the ball as they restricted Sri Lanka Women to 119-10.
There is a great variety in the bowling attack and with almost everyone coming to the party, Wolvardt will be confident of taking a 2-0 lead in the series.
Laura Wolvaardt (c), Tazmin Brits, Marizanne Kapp, Sune Luus, Chloe Tryon, Nadine de Klerk, Annerie Dercksen, Sinalo Jafta (wk), Nonkululeko Mlaba, Tumi Sekhukhune, Masabata Klaas

Sri Lanka Women need to turn things around if they are to stand any chance of winning here. They will probably continue opting to bowl first if they win the toss in this match.
And it will be their bowlers who could give them a good chance of getting ahead in the contest. Oshadi Ranasinghe and Sugandika Kumari were both out of the XI in the 1st T20I and the visitors surely missed their services as the opposition skipper went on to score a ton.
Prabodhani, Ranaweera, and Atthapaththu were all expensive and wicketless. A bowling-friendly pitch at Senwes Park that offers help to the seamers should raise Sri Lanka’s hopes.
Left-arm seamer Udeshika Prabodhani should be able to find some help from the surface and will be looking to get some breakthroughs early in the innings. They should also bring in Ranasinghe to replace a spinner for this match.
In the middle-order, both number 3 and 4 batters scored some runs and should be confident coming into this match. Though it wasn’t enough to get the momentum going in the run-chase, they will need to play a similar role of building the innings on a tough wicket.
Chamari Athapaththu’s role will be of the utmost importance as an opener in this batting lineup. A few early wickets could trigger a batting collapse for Sri Lanka.
Chamari Athapaththu (c), Anushka Sanjeewani (wk), Vishmi Gunaratne, Hasini Perera, Nilakshi de Silva, Harshitha Samarawickrama, Oshadi Ranasinghe, Inoka Ranaweera, Inoshi Priyadharshani, Achini Kulasuriya, Udeshika Prabodhani

It is a bowling-friendly pitch that offers help for the seamers. It has been quite challenging to score runs here though we’ve seen some high-scoring matches in the Men’s T20Is. The weather will be mostly sunny with a high of 27 degrees Celsius in Potchefstroom on the match day.
Senwes Park in Potchefstroom will be the venue for this match. It isn’t a particularly high-scoring venue and the average 1st innings score here is just 125 runs in T20Is. We reckon anything over 160 runs will be a highly competitive score in this match.
Teams bowling first have won a majority of the matches on this ground. Both teams would prefer to bowl first and give themselves the best chance of getting ahead in the game.
The way the hosts have started, they are ahead of Sri Lanka Women. Moreover, they also have the home advantage on their side. The visitors have big concerns in their batting department and don’t seem to be much of a threat to the Proteas. Hence, South Africa women will start as favorites in our match prediction.
