Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) face off against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 30th match of IPL 2025 this Monday in Lucknow. LSG have punched above their weight so far with four wins and two losses, landing them in third place. CSK kicked off their campaign with a win but haven’t been able to recover after that, slumping to five straight defeats and falling to ninth place. With home behind them and CSK struggling to find their rhythm, LSG look better placed going into this one.

Not many backed Lucknow Super Giants when the season began, but they’ve pulled off four wins from six and now sit third in the standings.
They’re coming off a 6-wicket win over Gujarat Titans at the Ekana, where they chased 181 with three balls to spare. What’ll encourage them most is doing it without Mitchell Marsh, who was unavailable due to personal reasons. It’s still unclear if he’ll be back for the next game.
Nicholas Pooran (61 off 34) and Aiden Markram (58 off 31) were the standouts in the last match, both playing impactful knocks to ease the chase. Pooran is now leading the IPL 2025 run charts—349 runs in six games at an average of 69.80 and a blistering strike rate of 215.43. Markram’s growing in confidence too, up to 202 runs with a strike rate of 153.03. If Marsh returns, LSG will have a stacked top order.
But the rest of the batting hasn’t quite held up. Rishabh Pant’s struggled badly—only 40 runs in five innings—and the pressure has crept into the middle order. David Miller has looked out of rhythm too, unable to find any timing.
Ayush Badoni and Abdul Samad have played their parts in brief bursts, but they’ll need to offer more if the top doesn’t click.
With the ball, Shardul Thakur leads the wickets column with 11 in six matches, though his economy rate of 10.38 has been expensive. Akash Deep hasn’t provided much relief either—his economy sits at 12.18.
Ravi Bishnoi hasn’t had much impact so far, taking just six wickets while going for 11.34 per over. The one who’s held things together is Digvesh Rathi. Eight wickets in six matches and a tidy 7.70 economy have made him the most dependable part of their attack. On a two-paced pitch like this, he could make a real difference.
Shardul Thakur has picked up 11 wickets in 6 matches and is 2nd amongst the leading wicket-takers this season. He has been impactful in the death overs and most of his wickets have come between overs 16-20. He will be up against his former team CSK, which gives him an additional edge heading into this contest. We back Thakur to once again come up truimphs and take over one wicket.
Pooran has smashed a total of 31 sixes in 6 matches, averaging over 5 sixes per match. He is in sublime six hitting form and has dominated against every bowling attack he has come up against. Expect another six hitting feast from the southpaw and his total six tally to be over 1.5.
Pooran is the leading run-scorer this season scoring 349 runs in 6 matches. In his last outing, Pooran has scored 61 runs in 34 balls. He is in top notch form and the matchup against the CSK spinners is in his favour. Given his current form, we back Pooran to score over 28 runs against CSK.

Things are going downhill fast for Chennai Super Kings, who just suffered their fifth loss in a row—this time a brutal 8-wicket defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders at home. It was a sorry effort from the five-time champs, putting up just 103-9 after being sent in. KKR chased it with ease in only 10.1 overs.
Regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad missing the rest of the season with injury only adds to CSK’s headaches. He was their most reliable batter, and without him, their top order looks shaky. Conway and Ravindra have to step up now, but so far, it hasn't been convincing. Ravindra hasn’t been able to build a proper innings, and Conway’s been hot and cold.
The middle-order isn't helping either. Rahul Tripathi and Vijay Shankar have failed to build momentum after early wickets, and haven’t been able to accelerate either.
Shivam Dube’s been fighting a lonely battle—unbeaten scores of 42 off 27 and 31 off 15 in his last two—but there’s been no backup from the rest.
Bowling’s been a mixed bag. Khaleel Ahmed has looked good up front, with 10 wickets and an 8.91 economy. He usually delivers early wickets in the powerplay. Noor Ahmad has been the most effective overall, with 12 wickets at 7.90, and the slow Ekana pitch could work in his favor during the middle overs against LSG.
The others, though, haven’t stepped up. Ashwin and Jadeja aren’t keeping things tight or picking wickets, and Pathirana’s been unreliable, leaking runs too often.
Dube has scored 137 runs in 6 matches and he is the 2nd highest run-scorer for CSK this season. Though he hasn't had a good season so far, in the last two matches the left-hander has scored over 30 runs. It is high time he makes an impact and the match against LSG is a perfect occasion to start firing and play a match winning knock.
Conway scored 12 runs against KKR in his last outing. He has been a bit patchy this season and hasn't lived up to expectations or his usual standards of consistency and run-scoring. With CSK in dire need of a win and the top order not firing, it is high time Conway steps up, and we believe a big knock against LSG is just around the corner.

At Ekana, batters might need to ease into their innings instead of swinging from ball one, though scoring won’t be too tough once they settle. The pitch tends to get slower and two-paced as the match goes on, which should suit the spinners in the middle overs. Fast bowlers will need to rely on variations—cutters and slower deliveries—to limit the damage.
The Lucknow heat and humidity will be a factor, but there's no rain in the forecast to worry about.

Average TurnThe average first innings score at Ekana Cricket Stadium tends to hover around 166. Last season, Kolkata Knight Riders’ 235 for 6 against Lucknow Super Giants was the highest team total here, a game they game by 98 runs. Based on how the first three games of IPL 2025 have played out at this venue, teams batting first will likely need somewhere between 190 and 200 to feel like they’ve got enough.
We back the visitors Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to win the coin toss in match 30 of Tata IPL 2025.
The average total match score in the last three IPL matches played at Lucknow is 369.3. It has been a high scoring venue this season, where all the last two matches have recoreded scores over 352 runs. CSK is coming on the back of a worst batting performance, while LSG is in good form with the bat. It is a do or die game for CSK so expect them to come good and LSG to continue their current form.
Two of the three matches at Ekana in IPL 2025 have been won by the chasing side. This suggests that bowling first is the better option here.
Lucknow Super Giants have had a solid ride this season, despite not being the hot favorites. However, their main issue is that they depend too much on Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran to bail them out with the bat. Still, they’ll be backing themselves against a Chennai Super Kings team that’s looked flat. Losing Ruturaj Gaikwad for the season has only added to CSK’s troubles. Unless their bowlers come up with something special and keep LSG to a low total, this one feels like it’s going Lucknow’s way.
Lucknow Super Giants are our picks for the winners of this match.
